Pervez Musharraf (Urdu: , born 11 August 1943) was the tenth President of Pakistan and led a military government. He took power on 12 October 1999 through a bloodless military coup d'état on the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. On 18 August 2008, Pervez Musharraf resigned under impeachment pressure from the coalition government. As President he was concurrently Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army. As of May 2011, he lives in London, United Kingdom, and has vowed to return for the next election.
