Joseph Elliott Girardi (born October 14, 1964) is a former Major League Baseball catcher and current manager of the New York Yankees. From 1989–2003, Girardi played for the Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals. In 2006, he was the manager of the Florida Marlins and named National League Manager of the Year.
It would have been a great opportunity. I just wish the timing was different. I don't think major league coaches can be part of this tournament because it could last the whole month of March, when we're in spring training.
With our guys, it shouldn't be a problem. They're probably too young to shave anyway.
He's a very talented offensive player that put up big numbers. He has not had the chance to probably catch enough games to make a fair judgment if he can be an everyday catcher. But the work ethic is there, and that's something that you cannot always teach.
