The photographer that took a picture (sold on e-bay) of Marianne Faithfull and Gene Pitney, at The Globe Theatre, Stockton On Tees, England. December 4, 1964 says:
"It wasn’t until some 40 years after I took this picture of the two lovers and was reading Marianne`s autobiography, “Faithfull,” that I discovered the answer to the truth behind her break-up with Gene Pitney. Marianne relates that, after her mother, "The Baroness" died, she found a bundle of Gene Pitney’s letters, hidden away in a trunk in the dimmer recesses of the attic. The letters revealed, Gene had tried to continue their relationship after his return to America but apparently the baroness intercepted all his letters. Pitney was devastated because Marianne wasn’t responding to his letters and composed, “I’m Gonna Be Stong" an ode to Marianne."
